Welcome to TANUFOX!
Hello, I am Mamoru Sawaguchi, also known as "TANUFOX," based in Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan.
Through this blog, I would like to introduce you to Japanese culture and traditions, alongside my own creations—including music and illustrations.
By profession, I am a woodworker specializing in high-end audio equipment. I also have a background in graphic design, which I studied during my student years.
I’ll be adding new items to my collection little by little, so I hope you enjoy the world of TANUFOX!

Set against the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji and the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom, a legendary "duel of wits" unfolds. This scene captures the two greatest tricksters of Japanese folklore in the heat of their ancient rivalry.
On one side stands the Kitsune (Fox)—a multi-tailed spirit radiating intelligence and sharp strategy. On the other, the Tanuki (Raccoon Dog)—a charming, pot-bellied figure known for his mischievous humor and rhythmic "belly drumming."
This is more than just a confrontation; it is a visual representation of the Japanese proverb, "Kitsune to Tanuki no Bakashiai"—a battle of deception between two equals, filled with vibrant energy and wit.
While the artwork honors the grand tradition of Japanese folding screen paintings (Byobu-e), it breathes with a modern dynamism. It is a tribute to the aesthetics of Japan: a perfect harmony between a deep reverence for nature and a love for the everyday humorous.
